Buckle up for a wild ride between genres with star conductor Simone Young. Electro-influenced Connor D’Netto portrays the unpredictability of life, followed by Alban Berg’s romantic songs in a twelve-tone suit and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. Soloist is international soprano Maria Bengtsson.

Australian Simone Young is well known among orchestras in opera houses and in concert halls around the world. Just as at home in the waters surrounding our most beloved composers as in the waves of contemporary music. Simone Young is chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, but also a driven and empathetic pianist who enjoys playing chamber music with musicians in the SSO.

Her compatriot, rising star Connor D’Netto, has been called “a role model as an Australian contemporary composer”. He wrote Uncertain Planning during the pandemic when Australia was in total lockdown and life consisted of dashed hopes. D’Netto is a classically trained singer and multi-artist. His genre-crossing music contains both electronic elements and acoustic instruments.

When the Austrian Alban Berg wrote his Seven Early Songs in the early 20th century, he had one foot in romanticism and the other in twelve-tone music. The evening ends magnificently with Johannes Brahms’ masterfully orchestrated Fourth Symphony.

As soloist, we hear Maria Bengtsson, an internationally recognized soprano, who makes her first guest performance with the Gothenburg Symphony.
