Connor D’Netto
composer • performer • producer • artist
Connor D'Netto (he/him) is a composer of contemporary art music, described as "the model contemporary Australian composer" by ABC Classic FM.
Connor’s work is a constant attempt to bring together sprawling artistic interests, and in doing so, create connections across audiences and communities. Some people describe his music as “post-minimalist” or “at the crossroads of genres”, others as “a dissertation on the fragility of existence”, “cataclysmic”, and “vibrant with layered textures, vertical rhythms, lyricism and starkness, as well as sweeping movement”
Connor describes his music as being
“laced with glitter and broken glass”
As a performer, Connor explores the intersections of experimental electronica, ambient and electroacoustic music, combining hardware synthesisers, live instruments, guitar pedals and DIY creations.
Connor is a producer and concert organiser, focusing on creating community-focussed, immersive, post-genre experiences, best shown in his work as Director of Magandjin-based non-profit arts organisation DOTS+LOOPS.
Connor is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Music (Masters of Music) and Brisbane’s University of Queensland (Bachelor of Music, Honours).
Connor is represented by Stephen McAllan at Emblem Artists.

Those who know me know I love food, and I love to cook. Over the last couple years, I’ve been trying to perfect my focaccia recipe, and I think I’ve done it! It’s been my go-to thing to bring to a picnic, pot-luck or party and always goes down a treat. So, I thought I’d share my recipe with y’all. Also, I just need to write it down somewhere, not just on scraps of paper I keep loosing, and this is as good a place as any!
Early Morning || Make Noise Morphagene and Tempi, Instruo Ochd and Ts-L
On holidays in Melbourne for a few weeks and decided to bring a little system with some of the bits and pieces I've been meaning to spend more time with. Alas, I forgot a sequencer or any effects (other than the Morphagene). So I've been concocting sample-fodder, then layering it up in Ableton.
Tonight I played my first ever live modular synth gig, and I only made one unexpected loud noise!
I’m very excited to be one of the composers commissioned by the Australian National Academy of Music as part of the ANAM Set 2024.
This incredible project pairs Australian and New Zealand composers with each of the performers of the Australian National Academy of Music, commissioning each composer to create a piece specifically for them. I’m very exciting to be writing for the wonderful cellist from South Australia, Jack Overall.
I’m very excited to have been awarded one of this year’s APRA Art Music Fund grants towards the creation of a new song cycle commissioned by Divisi Chamber Singers and Coady Green.
I’m honoured to announce that I have been awarded the 2022 Albert H Maggs Award for my first opera, The Call. Thank you so much to the panel for selecting me for this prestigious prize, to the University of Melbourne Faculty of Fine Arts and Music for administering this award, and of course to Opera Queensland, Ali McGregor, Patrick Nolan and everyone else that was part of bringing The Call to life – I couldn’t have done it without you!
Connor D'Netto discusses what the idea of 'home' means to him, as explored in his new song cycle commissioned by the Australian Music Centre.

This March marks 10 years since Brisbane’s “post-genre music and arts series” Dots+Loops put on their first show. To celebrate the milestone, Dots+Loops is about to throw itself a multi-sensory birthday spectacular, Dots+Loops REWIND, on 16 March at Brisbane’s Powerhouse, featuring highlights from previous shows by the likes of Kate Moore, Chris Perren and Pamela Z.
Ahead of the birthday bash, Dots+Loops Co-directors Kieran Welch, Connor D’Netto and Flora Wong talk about what that first decade meant for them.
“the drama of “Stove Photography, III I Wanted to be a Writer” (D’Netto/Phelan) does deserve a special mention. A movement from a published 25-minute work, it begins gently with the piano, followed by ensemble and solo singing and an explosive crescendo reflecting almost suicidal anxiety before subsiding to a hushed ending.”

“ [Material] is the kind of album that might prompt you to stare at your record collection and wonder when you last touched any of it. It’s a work of ambient and experimental art that feels more like a dissertation on the fragility of existence than something to casually spin on a Sunday afternoon. And perhaps that’s exactly the point.”

“The discordant time signatures created a tension in a tug-of-war vision of a drone-like flight in fast motion through suburban skies.”
