The Glad Tomorrow
Katie Noonan & Australian String Quartet
“Noonan navigates the challenging territory of this showcase of artful Australian music with unflinching accuracy...”
Sydney Morning Herald
Katie Noonan is one of Australia’s most poignant and powerful voices. When she sings, we listen. Because it’s beautiful. Because she has something to say. In The Glad Tomorrow she brings together the searing poetry of Oodgeroo Noonuccal, masterfully set to music by ten acclaimed Australian composers and played by the exceptional Australian String Quartet in a song cycle that will touch your heart.
An inspirational celebration of Australian words and music
Following the success of her 2016 song cycle With Love and Fury featuring the poetry of Judith Wright, Katie Noonan has again commissioned some of Australian best-known composers to set the poetry of Minjerriba poet Oodgeroo Noonuccal to music. Experience brand new works by Carl Vine, Elena Kats-Chernin, Richard Tognetti, Iain Grandage, David Hirschfelder, Thomas Green, Robert Davidson, Connor D’Netto, William Barton – and Noonan’s own composition Song of Hope.
For more than 20 years, Katie Noonan has been one of Australia’s most revered musical talents. A mother, singer, songwriter, producer, pianist, artistic director and fierce champion of the arts, she has won five ARIA Awards, gone Platinum seven times, released over a dozen studio albums and been called one of the greatest Australian singers of all time (Herald Sun).
One of Australia’s leading music ensembles, the Australian String Quartet has performed around Australia and internationally for over 30 years. They play a matched set of handcrafted Guadagnini instruments from the 18th century, galvanising listeners with their intimate performance chemistry, precision and distinctly Australian musical flavour.
This one night only concert promises to be an uplifting and utterly unforgettable musical experience.
Don’t miss this chance to hear Katie’s unique, powerhouse voice with the delicacy, precision and beauty of the Australian String Quartet.
