I'm very excited to announce that I have been awarded the Percy Brier Memorial Composition Prize from the University of Queensland for 2016!
Percy Brier (1885-1970) was born in Queensland and studied at Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music. He was a Brisbane-based organist, choral director, composer, music teacher and music historian in a professional career that began in 1906 and extended for more than six decades. Following his death, his son Eric Brier provided a gift to UQ to establish a prize in his memory.
My winning work, Texture No. 1 for Orchestra, will be premiered by the University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra on 16 October 2016 in the concert hall at QPAC.
